Our Graduates as Automotive Engineers work as part of a team responsible for vehicle design, development, manufacture and testing.  Generally, an Automotive engineer is involved in the design, manufacture, distribution, marketing, sales and after-sales care of cars, motorbikes and other commercial vehicles.   Roles of an Automotive Engineer The roles of an automotive engineer will depend on his/her area of work but could require the bachelor degree holder to:
  1. build prototypes of components and test their performance, weaknesses and safety
  2. decide on the most appropriate materials for component production
  3. inspect and test drive vehicles and check for faults.
  4. investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems
  5. liaise with suppliers and handle supply chain management issues
  6. manage projects, including budgets, production schedules, resources, staff and supervise quality control
  7. prepare material, cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications
  8. solve engineering problems using mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermodynamic or pneumatic principles
  9. supervise and inspect the installation and adjustment of mechanical systems in industrial plants
  10. take into consideration changing customer needs and government emissions regulations when developing new designs and manufacturing procedures
  11. use computer-aided design (CAD) packages to develop ideas and produce designs

Power Engineer
Our Graduates as Power Engineer: However, if a graduate of BEng. APE of Kyambogo University gets employed as a power engineer, then he or she may be in charge of the maintenance, repair, and operation of all the mechanical systems in a building, industrial hydro-power plant, engine room. boiler attendants, turbine operators, and refrigeration & air-conditioning mechanics.  Power Engineers Roles in an Industrial Settings Power engineers perform work on the following systems: 
  1. Boilers & Steam Systems 
  2. Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Systems 
  3. Building Automation Systems 
  4. Diesel and Petrol Engines 
  5. Hydro-Power Plant Turbines and Generators 
  6. Pumps, Piping and Compressed Gas Systems 
  7. Refrigeration and Electrical Systems
While the roles given above may be generic in an ideal situation practical responsibilities may also extend to supporting equipment, such as 
  1. pumps, 
  2. compressors, 
  3. electrical generators, 
  4. motors, 
  5. steam turbines, 
  6. gas turbines,
  7. heat exchangers, 
  8. condensers, 
  9. cooling towers, 
  10. water treatment systems, etc.
